Leadership Training

Open the door to employment and volunteer possibilities through our Lifesaving Society Certification programs. Certification as a lifeguard or swim instructor can lead to employment opportunities at the Nutrien Civic Centre and elsewhere.

We have courses to teach you first aid, lifesaving skills and much more. Whether you are interested in becoming a lifeguard, a swim instructor or just learning to become a better leader, these courses will help you develop strong leadership skills that will last a lifetime.

Swim Instructors

Prerequisites: 15 years old and Bronze Cross

“The Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate basic swim strokes and related skills. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.”

Class Size: Max. 16 students

 

Red Cross Standard First Aid

Bronze Medallion

Prerequisites: 13 years old or Bronze Star

“The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medallion challenges the candidate both mentally and physically…Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water.”

Class Size: Max. 16 students

 

Bronze Cross

Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid OR Standard First Aid.

“The LIfesaving Society’s Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for the responsibilities as assistant lifeguards.”

Class Size: Max. 16 students

 

National Lifeguard (NLS) - Pool

Prerequisites: 15 years old, Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid

“National Lifeguard education is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgement and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard.”

Class Size: Max. 16 students
